Week 8, ANDS Project

Showed one researcher his record on the RDA web site and he was pleased to see how it looked.  One information session should be showing what the records look like on RDA.
Spent most of the week finishing deliverables and fiddling with the inputting the manual RIF-CS records.

Week 7, ANDS Project

We had a visit from Luis from ANDS on Tuesday and Belinda Weaver from QCIF.  We had sent out an email the week before inviting interested academics to attend a presentation, with these two guest presenters.  We had interest from 25 participants, however six were from ORHD.  Some of those attending were already familiar with online services available while to others it was new.  Perhaps it might have been better to leverage the two guests better to have split the presentation into two separate sessions as I don’t feel that we gave ANDS enough exposure.
That afternoon Luis walked me through the manual lodging of a data collection record into the Research data Australia portal.  This was straight forward with no issues, other than being time consuming with the addition of the associated records such as Party and Activity.
Lodged second data collection the next day and completed missing information.

Week 6, ANDS Project

Not very sure what I accomplished last week.  I spent a lot of time working on the policy and procedures which seemed to take an inordinate amount of time for the amount of words produced.
I draw a entity relationship diagram for the RIF-CS data at the ICT working party request however the overview diagram available on the ANDS site actually shows the repeating elements better.  I also created an Excel spreadsheet which maps to the RIF-CS elements, so that completing a manual record would have a structured approach.

At one of the pilot groups request I also created a spreadsheet for the information which is needed to create a RIF-CS record in a more user friendly format than the technical version.  However it is still not a usable tool as so many of the terms need explaining, for instance the difference between location and coverage.
